Day 1 - Moselle Bay

Port Moselle - New Caledonia yacht charter itinerary Boatbookings

- Port of Moselle.

Start your charter in the heart of New Caledonia's capital and the main port of entry - Port Moselle. Benefit from the vast array of shops for your provisioning, including a large food market for your upcoming week. Restaurants line the port, as well as in the town. There is a supermarket in the main port which offers a large selection of French food - all reasonably priced. The locals speak fairly good English, but a game of Charades never hurts anyone! Have the first day in port, unpack your clothes, get the food stowed away, and wake up fresh on Day 2 to start your unforgettable charter in New Caledonia.

Day 2 - Moselle Bay to Baie de Prony

New Caledonia sailing itinerary

- Colonial Prison ruins in Prony Bay hike

It is said that you can spend your entire charter in the Bay of Prony. With so much to do and see, we recommend the following. Motor in carefully into the bay and anchor off towards the north point just before it forks. Do watch out for reefs and there is an abundance here! The brightly colored shells which illuminated the waters below are a fascinating feature unique to the bay of Prony. In your dinghy, you can either go right or left. If you decide to go down the right-hand side you will come across the old colonial prison ruins, which are both spooky and interesting to investigate. The land becomes a rich red, which is highlighted by the surrounding bright green vegetation. This area is steeped in history - and it is well worth a look. cruising back to the yacht you can either head up the left-hand side fork in the dingy and embark on a late afternoon walk around the hills admiring the bay and the outer islands below.

Day 3 - Baie de Prony to Kanumera Bay

New Caledonia sailing itinerary

- Kanumera Bay, Ils de Pins

Enjoy a brisk afternoon sail down to one of the most beautiful bays in the whole wide world - Kanumera Bay. With its milky white water in the shallows, and the strong smell of pines - this anchorage is our #1 recommended throughout the whole Arcelepigo of New Caledonia. This slice of heaven is perfectly protected by its mountainous sides and rarely gets too overcrowded. The Ile des Pins are a popular destination for sailors given that this island offers great holding and beautiful beaches - what more could you want?! You can easily spend a few days here exploring by foot or water. If you're getting itchy feet and want to continue with your sail then read on....

Day 4 -  Kanumera Bay to Gadji Bay

pro new Caledonia

- Oro Bay, Ils de Pins

Spend another day on Ile De Pines - after all, it is considered the jewel of New Caledonia! Have the choice of sailing either on the eastern side of the island or the western side of the island. If you charter up the east side you absolutely must check out Oro Bay (pictured above). This natural swimming pool, come anchorage, has revitalized the saltiest of sea dogs. With a reef so colorful and active this really does make for the most amazing lunch spot. Take the tender to shore and have lunch on the brilliant white sand beaches in the shade of the tall pines. This is a picture-perfect location like no other. After lunch continue sailing north and finish up in Gadji Bay for the evening. For the diving experts, you can book yourself into a night dive...only for the brave! Night dives in the Isle of Pines are renowned for its mysterious atmosphere, with the sea snakes and loggerhead turtles.

For the more experienced divers, you can book a scuba session and explore the mysterious underground caves called Grotte De La Troisieme. This strange phenomenon is only reachable by an underwater, narrow corridor! Finish up your morning exploring, and have lunch on the yacht because it's time for your second to last overnight stay!

Day 6: Ile Ouen to Moselle Bay

Sailing itinerary boatbookings
- The Hills overlooking Nouema on the main island of New Caledonia

This historic island of Ouen is home to just over 100 natives in the heart of Ouara village surrounded by a coconut plantation. This island was originally discovered in the 19th Century by sandalwood tradesmen. This island has long been famous for its traditional authentic ways, turtles, and a former jade mine that would support trading in the former years. On the East of Ouen, there are large coves for anchoring in Kumbe and Port Kute. The locals welcome tourism warmly and love to share their passion for the island, as well as the rest of New Caledonia. Head off just after lunchtime to return to port for your check out procedure.
